Circa 1930, a set of eleven matching place mats with needlelace motifs of a castle with figures in each corner plus an openwork hemstitch border. Each measures about 11 by 15 inches, with the castle in each corner about 4 inches high. The fabric is a finely woven cotton, very lightweight but not quite a gauze weight. The needlelace is worked with a twisted thread similar to perle cotton and has a great deal of both detail and dimension.
These have been stored for years and appear to have seen very little, if any use. The lightweight cotton fabric is very slightly off white.
An elegant, very usable gift for anyone who loves needlework and vintage textiles! Hand wash without bleach for many years of delight.
