c1915 gold plated dance or finger ring chatelaine w/ 5 accessories
Lovely, romantic golden finger-ring-form chatelaine suspending five chains and five appendages– this style is often called a “dance” chatelaine. The ring and three accessories test as 12Karat gold but are undoubtedly gold plated. The small round compact is hallmarked “BLM” in octagons on reverse. The pencil case is marked “14K” on the shank and is decorated with three racing horse heads and a monogram I(or J)DC in script very similar to the other pieces. The gold filled memo book contains four celluloid writing sheets. Three accessories– the compact, perfume bottle and memo book– all bear matching GRH (or perhaps GBH) entwined monograms.
7-1/2″ high overall. The memo book measures about 2-1/2 by 1-3/4, the compact is 1-1/4″ across, the lidded thimble bucket is 1-1/4″ tall, the pencil case is 3″ long and the perfume bottle is 2-3/4″ tall. The finger ring is quite large, about the size of a US Quarter coin.
Condition is excellent overall: there are some tiny dents and light, shallow scratches which are only readily apparent under magnification. The ring has a worn area where the appendage chains cluster and have rubbed the gold plating. The thimble bucket has two spots of worn finish at the hinges of the handle where it attaches to the bucket. The perfume bottle’s screw-off top is stuck shut.
