c1900 sterling and celluloid cased sewing set
Very pretty early 20th century cased sewing set from Buenos Aires jeweler El Faust Joyero Relojero feature 5 matching tools in a fabric covered case. Scissors, thimble, needle case, thread winder and stiletto (or awl) are all marked “825S” which is sterling silver but a lesser purity than 925; the stiletto point is celluloid (an early plastic resembling bone or ivory). The scissors is about 3-3/4″ long.
The case measures 6-1/4″ across by 5-3/4″ deep and a little over an inch deep. Inside the lid is an elaborate “dressing table” style mirror surrounded by gathered fabric and twisted cord. Each tool fits snugly into a velvet loop and all are original; the long needle is unmarked and steel rather than silver. The case has three elaborate brass latches that close securely and the case is in very good condition with only slight wear. All the tools are in excellent condition with virtually no visible wear.
