c1900 Iroquois “Whimsey” beadwork pouch

Original price was: $24.00.Current price is: $12.00.

Circa 1900 Iroquois beadwork “whimsy” finished in the shape of a small pouch with a an opening at the top and beadwork on both sides. Clear seed beads (smaller than usual, about 13/0) and colorful chunky bugle beads are worked over paper cutouts. The fabric edging is a slightly duller shade than it appears in the photos. It measures 2-7/8″ across at the widest point and 3″ high. The fabric is mounted over cardboard, creating a stiff framework.

Condition is generally fair; the beadwork is in excellent condition with no missing beads and the bead retain bright color. The red fabric edge binding is very worn and tattered as is the beige fabric underneath, and the fabrics are generally soiled.. There most likely would have been a ribbon or fabric strap or string of beads but it is missing.

Despite the condition, this is a lovely example of the beadwork techniques.
