c1880 Irish crochet collar and matching cuffs
Handmade lace was a much-coveted accent to a ladies’ wardrobe, and matched sets like this collar and cuffs were made so that they could be removed and reused when a dress became worn out. Classic Irish crochet lace motifs of dimensional roses, picots and interesting “coiled” circles were combined for these timeless accessories sometime around 1880.
The collar measures about 17″ long and each cuff is about 10″ and nearly 2″ wide. The very fine cotton thread is white with a slight greyish tinge. Each rose motif is only about 1/2″ across.
In excellent condition, free of breaks or damage– these are sturdy enough that you could still wear them today. Hand wash and lay flat to dry.
