c1880 Album de Broderies Au Pont de Croix I by Therese de Dillmont
Circa 1880 portfolio of pattern plates (individual sheets) of traditional European charted patterns “Album de Broderies Au Pont de Croix I” by Therese de Dillmont, published by DMC. Meticulously detailed illustrations show cross and back stitches, patterns include alphabets, geometrics, knotted patterns, borders and traditional folk patterns. Pages measure 9″ by 12″ and each “Planche” (pattern plate) is printed on thin coated paper. 31 of 32 plates are present– Planche 13 is missing but I’ll include a copy of it. There is also a 14-page booklet of stitching instructions and diagrams along with a listing of DMC publications and threads. French text.
Generally good condition. The portfolio cover has expected wear along the edges. the individual sheets have damaged edges but there is a wide margin around the patterns and none of the patterns are affected. Planche 1 has a large smear of sheer red ink. The paper is still supple, not brittle.
Please note: these antique charts are not illustrated on regular graph paper– the background resembles a subtle woven fabric instead. The individual cross stitches are beautifully drawn and very clear.
