c1830 mother of pearl thread winder/ game counter
$36.00
Hand carved mother of pearl thread or silk winder made in Canton (China) sometime around 1830 for export to England– this style was also used as a game counter. The shell is creamy white and glossy with delicate etched patterns on both sides and elaborately carved details along the edges. Two birds are incised on one side, the other side has a 6-pointed flower motif surrounded by twining leaves.
Condition is excellent. Slightly more than 1-1/2″ across and 1″ high with a nice iridescent luster.
