c1830 “Mary” sampler with Bible verse, crowns and alphabets

Charming small English sampler with the verse “Mary Kept all thefe thingf And Pondred (sic) them in her Heart” stitched in pretty blue silk thread. Although I believe it dates to the 1830-1840 period, it features the old long-form letter “s” that looks like an “f” which is more typical of earlier work. I suspect the pink area at center right (after the blue numbers) may have been the name and date but it’s unreadable due to stitch loss. The bottom rows features crowns and other motifs.

This is a classic “schoolgirl” sampler worked in cross stitch on evenweave linen with both silk and fine wool threads. Their is a fair amount of loss to the wool stitches but the ground fabric (the linen) is in very good condition and structurally sound. The linen color is warmer, more a golden tan than it appears in the photos and the wool and silk thread colors are still vivid.

The sampler measures 10″ high by 10-1/2″ wide. It’s unframed with a finished hem on three sides and selvedge at the bottom.
