c1820-30 matched pair mother of pearl thread winders etched w/ sunflowers

Matched pair of lovely, hand carved mother of pearl thread or silk winders made in Canton (China) sometime during 1820-30’s for export to England. The shell is very white and glossy with delicate, intricate carving. Each winder measures 1-3/8-inches across. Each arm (on both sides) is delicately incised with a 4-petal flower and vine pattern. The central circle on one side is filled with a larger sunflower-like spray within a circle. The reverse side center is blank.

Condition is excellent, with only a few tiny pin-point sized nicks along the edges; you can see them under magnification but they’re scarcely visible otherwise. Both have beautiful, almost iridescent luster. Sold only as the pair.
