Berlin Work Patterns from Old Vienna
$20.00
Charted needlepoint patterns of the early 1800s often featured lush florals, birds and small animals, and idyllic scenery. Also included is the accompanying essay written by Frieda Pollak in 1926, translated from German into English by Susan Johnson.
These charts use whole stitches, making them suitable for both needlepoint and cross stitch. This book includes 32 graphed designs from that era which were reproduced in the 1920s. The original cards measured only a few inches and the charts have been enlarged for easier use. As was typical of antique patterns, no thread colors or numbers as a color key are offered.
Designs charted on graph paper are a universal language, with each square on the pattern representing a single stitch. Basic counted thread stitches and a page of graph paper are included to help you create your own projects.
These charts are reproduced from the original antiques, and some signs of age and wear will be visible. Antique printing processes were not as clear and accurate as the charts modern stitchers are accustomed to using, and these are not recommended for novice needleworkers. No specific projects are offered, and although some charts are complete designs most are borders or motifs intended to be used for your own creations.
8-1/2 by 11 inch softcover book with 44 pages; 32 pages of full color charts. ISBN 979-8733078748 (overseas customers can use this number to find a copy locally).
