19th century Victorian scallop shell red velvet pincushion


Shell-inspired sewing accessories were popular travel souvenirs during the second half of the 19th century. This one is made from two small natural scallop shells holding a deep red velvet covered fabric pincushion, set into a plaster base with a pale blue wash of paint. Overall about 2-1/2″ high by 2-3/4″ wide. In excellent condition.
