19th century hand painted Berlin Work needlepoint pattern for a wreath
$48.00
During the last quarter of the 19th century, ladies’ magazines often included hand-painted needlepoint charts designed for use with richly colored wool yarns and beads; often featuring lush florals, this style is best known as “Berlin Work.”
This is a hand-painted pattern sheet “expressly designed and painted by hand for the Englishwoman’s Domestic Magazine” of a wreath of poppies in red, pink and blue. The sheet measures 10″ by 12″. The paper is in fair condition with creases, tears and edge wear but the paint is still vivid– you can see the brushstrokes!– and would be a beautiful item for your sewing collection once framed. It will be shipped flat, folded between cardstock for protection.
