19th century gilt brass cherub chatelaine with 4 tools
Late 19th century dark gilt brass cherub chatelaine with a lovey patina and 4 filagree chains with 4 matching appendages– a scissors case, thimble bucket. pencil case and pincushion cover all with repoussé floral scrollwork patterns. 14 inches long overall. The 2″ ornate central plaque features a winged cherub surrounded by scrollwork and has a hinged clip on the back so that it can be worn over a belt or sash.
The thimble bucket measures about 1″ high; it may have had a lining at one time but no longer. The scissors sheath is about 2-1/4″ long; the mechanical pencil case is about 2-3/4″ long with a working mechanism but no pencil and the 1″ wide book-form pincushion is missing with only the metal cover remaining (it was probably velvet covered).
No maker’s marks. Excellent condition with a few spots of discoloration or wear but no damage or visible repairs.
