1950s pair of Sunbonnet Sue twin quilts with Barbie-pink borders 63″ by 93″
$195.00
Vintage 1950s pair of twin size Sunbonnet Sue pattern quilts with Barbie-pink borders! They are edged all the way around with small folded fabric triangles and measure about 63″ long by 93″ wide. The batting is very thin so these are considered “summer weight.” Hand appliquéd, hand quilted, machine pieced on the larger areas. The hand quilting stitches are neat and fairly small.
The same off-white muslin and the solid pink cotton are used for both with a nice variety of prints and solid colors; some combinations are the same on both but there is a nice variety. The squares are about 10″ by 10-1/2″ with 3-1/2″ of pink border fabric between them.
Both are in excellent condition. The only flaws I see are 3 areas of dye transfer, on 2 of the figures near their hats and a larger section on the underside of one quilt. I tested everything for colorfastness before washing and most of the dye in those spots washed out, so spot treating and another good soaking may remove more of the dye.
The calico prints are a smooth cotton fabric, the pink fabric seems a little heavier and more polished. The off-white backgrounds are more like a muslin, slightly lighter weight and with a looser weave than the colorful fabrics. Shown on a queen bed and and as you can see, the sides barely reach the edges of the mattress.
I have hand washed and line dried the both quilts so they are clean, ready to use and enjoy. Sold only as the pair, and a signature will be required at delivery.
