1929 “DvL” German or Dutch miniature sewing sampler
Basic sewing skills were still a part of every girl’s education in the early 20th century. This small sampler by “DvL” and dated 1929 is most likely German or Dutch, and most likely stitched by a very young child (the reverse is shown in the last photo). Red and coral threads were used on a creamy off-white linen. The edges are hemmed at the top and left side, selvedge at the right and the bottom with a hemstitch openwork border. The initials and date are worked in cross stitches.
In very good condition with only a few small brown spots and a missing stitch at the bottom of the “9” in 1929. The sampler measures 9″ wide by 6-1/4″ high. It is unframed and will be shipped flat.
