1920s Alpursa Chocolate album of 500+ cross stitch patterns

$495.00

A rare find! 1920s album with over 500 tiny cross stitch pattern charts printed on small slips of paper– these were included with chocolate bars as a premium, similar to baseball cards with gum! Alpursa Chocolade & Cacao was a Swiss dairy company begun in the 1890s and expanded into milk chocolate in the early 1900s. The tiny cards measure 2 x 2.5 inches and were produced in series of 6 designs of a theme– flowers, angels, geometrics, children. A total of 84 complete series (504 charts) plus 9 more from other, incomplete series. The album measures about 8.25 x 11 inches and 1.5 inches thick at the spine. As is typical of antique patterns, no thread color numbers are suggested and stitch counts are not included.

In excellent condition. The cards are pasted in place (as was intended) so some of the cardstock album pages have very slight warping. This is an exceptionally complete collection with 84 series (there were over 100 in all). Colors are bright and clear and the print quality is very good.
