1884 reprint of Joh. Sibmacher’s 1604 book of charted patterns

Johan Sibmacher’s 1604 “Kreuzstich-Muster” or needlework pattern book contains classic charted designs used by embroiderers and sampler makers for centuries. This is a 1884 German reprint of the original book, containing all 36 pattern plates (pages). 97 patterns are charted on graph paper.

Hardcover book measuring 6-3/4″ by 8-1/4″ with 38 pages. In very good condition: cover has minor edge wear and very light soiling, the first blank page has a lengthy inscription written in lovey copperplate. The interior is excellent, the paper is still supple and not at all brittle although it is quite tanned– the color is a warm golden tan, darker than it appears in the photos. Binding is still excellent. A rare opportunity to own a piece of antique needlework history!
