1885 Old German Embroidery Patterns portfolio by Julius Lessing antique original
1882 portfolio of pattern plates (individual sheets) of traditional European charted patterns– “Muster altledeutscher Leinenstickerri Erste Sammlung” by Julius Lessing (Old German Embroidery Patterns First Collection, Fifth Edition). The meticulously detailed illustrations show cross and back stitches, patterns include geometrics, knotted patterns, borders and stylized florals. Pages measure 9″ by 12″ and each “Tafel” (pattern plate) is printed on heavy cardstock. All 25 plates plus 3 history and instruction separate booklets are included. Old German text throughout.
Generally very good condition. The portfolio covers have detached as have the inner flaps, but the individual sheets have only slight edgewear; 2 have small tears. The pages have a wide blank margin around the printed area, and the paper is still supple, not brittle. Covers has expected wear and age-appropriate stains. No marks or writing beyond a name on the inside front cover.
I do have additional portfolios of both this and the second volume, in slightly different format sizes and from different years. Please call 518-828-1003 or email email@example.com for details and pictures.
