1890 Old German Embroidery Patterns 1st portfolio by Julius Lessing antique original
$95.00
Antique original 1890 portfolio of pattern “plates” (individual sheets) of traditional European charted patterns– Muster altdeutscher Leinenstickerri Erste Sammlung by Julius Lessing (Old German Embroidery Patterns First Collection, Fifth Edition). The meticulously detailed illustrations show cross and back stitches, patterns include geometrics, knotted patterns, borders and stylized florals. Pages measure 9″ by 12″ and each “Tafel” (pattern plate) is printed on heavy cardstock. All 25 plates plus 4 separate multi-page booklets with history and instruction are included. Old German text throughout.
Very good condition overall. The portfolio is complete except for Plate 14 (included is a print copy from another edition), front and back covers are still attached by the red cloth-covered spine and it has the 3 inner flaps. The individual sheets are in very good condition with only minor edgewear. The pages have a wide blank margin around the printed area, and the paper is still supple, not brittle. Covers has expected wear and age-appropriate stains. No other marks or writing.
I also have the second (Zweite) portfolio, not yet photographed or in the web bookshop. Please call 518-751-0964 or email susan@sj-designs.net for details and pictures.
