1881 Old German Embroidery Patterns 2nd portfolio by Julius Lessing antique original

$95.00

1881 portfolio containing 26 pattern plates (individual sheets) of traditional European charted patterns– Muster altedeutscher Leinenstickerri Zweite Sammlung by Julius Lessing (Old German Embroidery Patterns Second Collection, Fifth Edition). The meticulously detailed illustrations show cross and back stitches, patterns include geometrics, knotted patterns, borders and stylized florals. Pages measure 9″ by 12″ and each “Tafel” (pattern plate or page) is printed on heavy cardstock. All 26 plates, 2 title pages plus 2 separate booklets with history and instruction are included. Old German text throughout. A rare find to have one with all pages included. Multiple charts on each page with hundreds in all within in the volume.

Generally very good condition. The portfolio covers have some edge wear as do the inner flaps, but the individual sheets have only slight edge wear and a few small spots of discoloration. The pages have a wide blank margin around the printed area, and the paper is still supple, not brittle. Covers have expected wear and age-appropriate marks. No marks or writing.
