1860s beaded Berlin Work needlepoint roses with border
Unfinished Berlin Work style needlepoint square with an elaborate, solidly beaded border and central floral motif stitched in wool. Even in its present condition, this is a stunning example of lavish Victorian design with a grisaille (grey shaded) border of glass beads in varying textures and finishes. The design area measures just under 17″ square, with a margin of blank canvas making the overall dimensions 19″ by 22″.
Overall condition is poor to fair. There is some bead loss, holes and dark stains to the canvas ground and the wool yarn is very faded. However, I think this would be a lovely and romantic piece in an antique frame.
