1852 small German sampler with alphabets & crowns
Small German sampler has the initials RS DD and date 1852 in the central cartouche, and IR MD and TD on either side. The upper part features neatly stitched alphabets and crowns worked in a twisted silk thread, while the lower half was worked with a tapestry-style wool yarn that is too heavy for the linen and has produced lumpy stitches.
Condition is generally good with some stitch loss to the wool. Color retention is good and there doesn’t appear to be any fading. No holes in the ground fabric but scattered small stains overall. Sampler is hemmed on all four sides and measures 14″ wide by 10-1/2″ high. It is unframed and will be shipped rolled in acid-free paper in a tube.
